Martin Splitt

Multiplayer games with web technologies

Martin is open source contributor and web evangelist by heart from Zurich with a decade experience from the trenches of software engineering in multiple fields.

What’s this about?

Thanks to the wide adoption and availability of WebGL across browsers (including those on mobile) we get control of the full graphics pipeline.

With WebGL we have the means to create 3D games with JavaScript and with WebRTC we can create multi-user applications in the browser. So what happens when we put that together? Let’s find out and have some fun!

David Da Silva Contin

Using mobile devices as game controllers

Lightning talk

David is a 3rd year computer science student from Barcelona who is passionate about multi-user experiences and VR. He’s a core member at Mocha.js, and he helps foster the local hacker comunity by organising events such as HackUPC.

What’s this about?

Limited by the availability of physical controllers, their battery, or their interactivity? The solution is in your pockets.

With LudumPad, players can join your game using their phone as a controller. Any number of players. Its API lets you customize their UI, input components, trigger sounds, vibration… It’s a web application, so you can do whatever HTML5 and JS lets you do. And it’s Open Source.

We will learn about the challenges and changes faced during LudumPad’s development, and we will take a look at its current state and future plans. To finish the presentation, we will be able to try LudumPad while playing a game together on the huge cinema screen.

Ramon Blanquer

Participative Real-Time Visuals

Lightning talk

Ramon studies Computer Visualization at Bournemouth University. He loves experimenting with graphics, sound, generative art, mathematics, interactive technologies and everything in between.

What’s this about?

I will show how real time graphics can be used to engage an audience on a music show or performance.

My demo will be related to the VJ (visual jockying) scene with a plus of participation from the public. So make sure you have a twitter account ready and set up on your phone for the event.

Among the technologies and techniques I have been using there is FFGL, GLSL, Processing, openFrameworks, Resolume, Python web sockets on a Raspberry Pi and fractals.

Javier Agenjo

Can we have 3D games in the browser?

Lightning talk

Javier Teacher and researcher in 3D-Graphics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (courses related to 3D graphics and videogames). Now focused on 3D graphics on the Web (WebGL). Creator of WebGLStudio.org, an Open Source 3D Editor on the web using WebGL. Also working in his first 3D game on the web.

What’s this about?

I’ll share some impressions and experiences of trying to do 3D games in the browser using JS/WebGL without libraries
